Welcome statement from the KMS Chairperson
Dear ALL!
It is with great humility that I welcome you all to the Kenya Meteorological Society, a Non-Governmental body of professionals affiliated to meteorology. We are located within the Kenya Meteorological Department headquarters along Ngong road. The society has historically prioritized functions that are of significant value addition to the meteorology profession: publication of weather/climate and related science papers, organizing conferences at national and international levels, and registration of professional members. In the process, we boast of commendable success rates; three active journals with each having at least nine volumes. We have also registered over two hundred professionals under various categories of our member types.
It is my sincere wish that as the Chair of such a society whose core mandates are to bring professionalism to meteorology, we inspire agility and passion to efforts geared towards problem solving by scientific approaches. As a society, we need to encourage young people to feel the passion for meteorology and its related subjects.
Our Society is healthy and poised to continue its role as a scientific and professional society in meteorology and related sciences. Increasingly, our field is relevant to a growing array of researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and the public. Together we, as members of various institutions, must work to ensure a scientifically and technologically-rich, inclusive, and respected Society responsive to current and future challenges and opportunities.
With Best Regards,
Dr. Richard Muita (PHD)
Chair, Kenya Meteorological Society
